Aadhaar is no longer accepted by EPFO as verification of birthdate. Verify that the documents are valid.

EPFO has complied with an order from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The Aadhaar card is no longer a recognized form of identification for date of birth according to the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). The government of India's EPFO, which is housed in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, announced the news on Tuesday via a circular (No: WSU/2024/1/UIDAI Matter/4090). The Central Provident Fund Commissioner has given his or her approval to the decision (CPFC).

The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) will no longer accept Aadhaar card as a valid proof for date of birth.

EPFO has complied with an order from the Indian Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI). According to UIDAI's order (Circular No. 08 of 2023), a number of beneficiaries were using Aadhaar as identification at the time of birth. Despite being a unique identity, the Aadhaar Act of 2016 did not recognize Aadhaar as proof of date of birth. UIDAI stressed in its mandate that Aadhaar was an identification proof, not a birth certificate.

Aadhaar has been taken off the list of papers that can be used to change a person's date of birth by EPFO in accordance with the direction from UIDAI. The circular stated that the removal of Aadhaar was related to Table-B of Annexure-1 of the Joint Declaration SOP that was previously published.

The application software used by EPFO will undergo any necessary modifications in order to comply with the amended criteria. The required adjustments will be made by the Internal System Division (ISD). All of EPFO's zonal and regional offices have been instructed to make sure that the most recent recommendations are widely followed.

Notably, recent rulings by courts, like as the Bombay High Court's, have reaffirmed that Aadhaar cannot be used as proof of birthdate.
